*New Therapist at Verdant, Immediate Openings Available*
Choosing to seek therapy often brings anxiety about finding the right support amidst existing life stressors, which can feel overwhelming. My primary goal in therapy is to ensure you feel seen and heard, as you are the expert of your own life. Together, we will navigate your journey toward healing, wellness, and achieving your life goals. I hold an M.S.Ed. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Western Illinois University, a B.A. in Psychology from St. Ambrose University, and I am a National Certified Counselor. My experience spans various settings, focusing on depression and anxiety, trauma, substance use, eating disorders, family dynamics, and other life stressors. I employ a unique and eclectic therapeutic approach tailored to your individual needs, utilizing methods such as EMDR, CBT, and ACT, while incorporating creative techniques like bibliotherapy and art therapy. I believe your therapy should reflect the uniqueness of your life. Both in-person and telehealth options are available to suit your preferences.
In therapy, I want to provide a safe and inclusive space for all individuals to heal at their own pace. I feel privileged to walk alongside individuals as they make sense of themselves in this world. Just as every individual is unique, my approach includes an eclectic style utilizing ACT and CBT modalities. My graduate studies focused on trauma-informed care and PTSD, which included clinical elements from various trauma therapy modalities as well. I have experience working in outpatient and inpatient settings, addressing a variety of mental health concerns, such as bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, ASD and ADHD, anxiety, depression, identity concerns, and PTSD. Although my experience is broad, I enjoy working with trauma to help bring insight into what is impacting your over-all well-being.
I am a Clinical Mental Health Counselor, I received my BA focusing on Global Health and Psychology and my MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Iowa. I have worked in various settings, including adult therapy, crisis work, and with adolescent students. I am committed to providing a holistic assessment and treatment plan specially tailored to each client I work with.
I enjoy working with adolescents and adults with various mental health concerns, including depression, anxiety, ASD, and ADHD. My therapeutic approach is integrative, collaborative, and my therapeutic approach includes ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) strengths-based counseling. I am passionate about providing a safe space to work through the challenges you are facing.
My passion for being a therapist lies in the ability to help you feel seen, accepted, and heard so you can heal, grow, and understand yourself better. I have had the privilege of being able to do this through inpatient and outpatient work. My treatment approach focuses on meeting you where you are at and supporting where you're looking to go. I'm experienced in working with children, adolescents, and adults with challenges including Anxiety, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, trauma related issues, PTSD, life transitions, stress management, relationships challenges, and parenting skills. My approach includes Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Person-centered Therapy, and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). I offer in-person and telehealth appointments.
Not accepting new clients at this time.
Throughout my career, I've found fulfillment in helping others discover their goals and potential. For the past 12 years, I've had the honor of working with servicemen in the military and their families, and I'm happy to now also serve the public beyond. My treatment approach addresses a variety of conditions including anxiety, depression, addiction, stress, life transitions, trauma, PTSD, divorce, grief, anger management, OCD, and ADHD. I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) that I use to reprocess trauma and treat OCD, self-worth, and triggers that produce anxiety. I see children and individuals age 8 through adult.
For the past 16 years, I've been passionate about helping people become the best versions of themselves. I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and I'm experienced in adult issues including anxiety, depression, ADHD, addiction, stress, life transitions, divorce, grief, and anger management. My training has included ACT, EMDR, PCIT, and Adlerian Play Therapy. I have the honor of guiding the next generation of mental health professionals as a board-approved supervisor for therapists in training. I currently see adult clients only.
Tonks has retired as our resident therapy dog, formerly assisting Tina Issa. While she will miss seeing everyone at the office, she will be enjoying her home life.
